Thrifty Find of the Week

A few weeks ago I went to an estate sale with my friend Cassie and came home with my arms full of goodies. It was the third and final day of the sale so everything was half off. It was also my first estate sale. It took me a minute to get past the eeriness of it, but I eventually decided that I would be flatterred if a bunch of people wanted to come and ooh and ah and haggle over all my possessions after I’m gone, so I hope this lady is flattered somewhere too.

glass plates

I love how these glass dishes are neutral, but not at all boring thanks to the textured designs. I am so thankful that Cassie pointed them out to me because I hadn’t even noticed them!

The swirled detail on these large plates really floats my boat.

I also got a silver covered serving dish. Old silver dishes and platters are one of my favorite things to collect. And I’m sure I’ll find a place for this little pumpkin when fall rolls back around.

All together I got:

  • 6 small plates
  • 6 medium plates
  • 2 large plates
  • 4 ramekins/custard dishes (2 with a pretty textured design and 2 made of oven-safe pyrex)
  • a sillver covered serving dish
  • a pumpkin candy dish
  • a glass cylinder vase
  • a big strand of costume pearls

All for a grand total of, wait for it, $27!

Later that same day (!) I went to Ann Taylor Loft, where all their sale items were half off, and got this dress for about $20 (originally $80-something). I think it goes nicely with my $3 strand of fake pearls.

Estate sales are the ultimate in recycling! Great buys, Charlotte, and you look marvelous :)

  2. Hello, nice to meet you here. I am one of your mother’s cousins from Illinois. Your Mom linked me to you on Facebook. I love your estate sale finds. I have been to a few estate sales and sometimes find them a bit sad. My husband’s Aunt passed away a few years ago and had a Huge sale. I love old books especially and my husband likes old fishing equipment. I will search around your blog to find out more of you. I am delighted.

  3. The dress suits you and looks great with the pearls! Wanna be my stylist? LOL
