I was visiting my friend Cassie’s apartment the other day (this was a productive visit, as it’s also when I snagged my new friend Claude) and as I was gazing upon her coffee table I got a little envious. I loved the proportions of it. It got me thinking about my own coffee table…
And how not perfectly proportioned it is. It’s freaking huge. In the photo below you can see how narrow it makes the walkway through the dining room, despite the fact that it’s pushed up pretty close to the sofa. (Notice this pic is from before I switched up my dining room chairs-those old Ikea chairs all got sold in the garage sale!)
So I decided to keep my eyes peeled for a table that was more narrow, and wouldn’t ya know that a mere two days later I spotted one? She was buried under a pile of furniture in the corner of an overstuffed resale shop. As soon as I spotted those brass legs and caster feet gleaming through the chaos I knew she was worth asking about. Turned out she was part of a set with two end tables for $90. Well, I didn’t need any end tables, and I didn’t have $90. After some polite haggling I got the coffee table for $60. Not bad for vintage solid wood on wheels!
I love the feminine lines and compact footprint. We didn’t need the huge surface area of the old coffee table since it sits only a few feet away from the much more expansive dining table, so all that space just made the room feel cramped. And while the extra shelf below the tabletop on the old one seemed like a good idea, in reality I rarely used it because it was so big that it invited chaos. I really love how the open area underneath this table gives a more spacious look, and I even think it could support a chunky basket or two stashed underneath without looking too cluttered.
I haven’t decided yet whether I’ll paint it or leave it as is and will probably wait a few weeks before taking any action. If I do decide to paint it, I’m thinking maybe black or charcoal? I want something that will really highlight the brass legs without being too loud. The blue dresser is nearby so I’ve gotta be careful not to let things get crazy.
Notice the total mutual admiration happening between Juliet and Pistachio? I feel like they’re maybe about to start cuddling any day now.
That’s a great find. And $60 isn’t shabby at all! I’m with you on painting it. It looks great the way it is, but I could totally see it black and charcoal.
I totally didn’t think I’d have time for the pinterest challenge, but my son took a long nap, so I took advantage of it. We need to challenge each other every once in a while to get something done from pinterest!
And I soooo hear you on the Christmas decor at Hobby Lobby. I went there over the weekend, and I felt like it was December. A lady that worked there told me that they get stuff 6 months in advance for the seasons. That’s nuts!
You did a great job on your wreath! Fingers crossed that I win the other one!
