Green Gem

This little lady started out as a diamond in the rough.

And now she’s the color of a gemstone.

On my day off last week, I dragged her out to the porch to enjoy the lovely weather and lightly sanded the areas where paint was flaking. I didn’t stress too much about any uneven texture from the animal-print paint job because I knew that my flat paint would hide it pretty well.

I’d pretty much decided on painting her green, but in a very uncharacteristic move I actually walked into Lowe’s without a particular shade in mind. Usually I research colors ahead of time, or choose something I own to have them color match (my blue dresser in the dining room was color matched to my favorite purse). But this time, I just started looking at paint chips until I had a few that struck my fancy.

I stared ‘em down for a few minutes under the awesome fluorescent lighting and ultimately landed on the second from the left, Ball Game by Valspar.

Not too light, not too dark. Just right.

I liked it even better once I brought in my sewing machine.

The wooden knobs are green for now. I’ve considered dousing them with antique brass spray paint or even switching them out for something a little more special. We’ll see how it goes. The chair is poached from the dining room, but I like the way the dark wood looks against the green so much that I think it’ll be my new sewing chair. The fact that it’s super comfy and supportive doesn’t hurt, either.

And in the spirit of keeping it real, here’s what this room looks like when I step back about twelve feet.

That’s right, people. I still haven’t done a thing about that pile of clutter. I may have even added to it. Shame on me.

I haven’t moved the rest of my sewing supplies or fabric stash from the old office yet, but things are already feeling more spacious. My big white desk went from this:

To this:

There’s still a giant stack of paper clutter sitting on top of the printer, but at least there’s some open space to the right of me now. Babysteps.

Maybe having this nice, sun-filled area to sew will motivate me to finish the piping for the wing chairs? I haven’t worked on them in weeks.

I can’t wait to fill those drawers with all my little sewing delights!

It looks great! I like the shade of green. Our house is a green shade called cypress. When we built it, I just couldn’t go with the tan or beige that most new houses are now.

Thanks, Janet! I think greens are hard to pick, but it’s one of my favorite colors.
