Put a Blanket on It

Thank you all so much for your kind comments yesterday about my blog’s new look! I am just smitten with and am glad you like it as much as I do!

I’m a huge fan of keeping a pretty blanket tossed over the back of the sofa to counter all the pet hair that my little furry friends leave behind. All three of my animals looove hanging out on top of those back cushions, but the blanket is a pretty and low-maintenance counterattack. See what I’ve got going on in the living room?

It’s an old tattered quilt I got from Etsy, and it does a great job of hiding the hair. Pet hair doesn’t even stick to it the way that it seems to cling to upholstery fabric. I’ve only washed the dang thing once in the six months that I’ve had it. It mostly just sits around looking pretty and for that I will be forever indebted to it.

I want to get a similar setup in the front room. The white slipcover is like a magnet for cat hair, and since I’m not really down with taking those cushion covers off to be washed every few days this is the reality that we’re living with for now.

It’s definitely in desperate need of a more attractive solution. I’m struggling to find just the right thing for it though. Trouble is, I don’t really know what I’m looking for. Do I want something colorful, or more neutral? A soft cotton or cozy wool? Or maybe a knitted afghan? Etsy is my go-to shopping place for this sort of thing, but even though I’ve got several blankets marked in my favorites none of them seem exactly right for this room.

I know from experience that the best thing to do in this situation is to bide my time, waiting patiently for the perfect thing to present itself. It’s just so hard to be patient when you’re looking at an ugly, faded and hole-ridden blanket on your beautiful new sofa every day.

In the meantime I’ve got some other hopes and dreams to pour my money into, like the shelves I so desperately need above my desk and the vegetable garden I’ve been dreaming of for years. I’m hoping to tackle both of those projects this weekend–that’s right, it’s already time for spring planting here in south Louisiana! I hope you all have a wonderful, productive, and relaxing weekend ahead of you, just like I’ve got planned for myself!

  1. Hi Charlotte, I am sure if you are patient the perfect something will pop up on etsy, I agree for that sort of thing etsy is the place to be, I must also say well done- what a beautiful face /blog-lift…. so pretty!

  2. I feel your pain. I have two large and one medium sized dog and a large cat that all share the furniture. I bought some cheap sheets to cover the sofa and love seat. The color is neutral, but other than that, it is not a satisfactory solution. They wrinkle and, of course, I have to wash them about twice a week

  3. Oh wow, I didn’t get a chance to stop by yesterday to see the new look, but I love it! From what I know about you, this seems so ‘you’!
