A Little Lamp Switcheroo

See that little lamp sitting over to the right on my desk? I picked it up at Goodwill a few years ago for less than five bucks. It’s served me well in providing just enough light for me to work at the computer in the evenings without straining my eyes, and I love the classic shape of the brass base.

I’ve been wanting to put a small brass lamp in Jack’s room, but wasn’t having any luck finding the right one on Etsy. And let’s face it, I just don’t have the energy these days to go scouring thrift stores in search of the perfect lamp. So I decided to steal the desk lamp. That shade had to go, though. I switched it out for a small drum shade ($13 at Lowe’s).

Doesn’t it look like a completely different lamp with that new shade? I should have done this years ago. It’s sitting up on the mantle now, but that’s not it’s forever home. As soon as I get a little side table next to my newly-upholstered rocking chair it’ll move there for bedtime stories and late night nursing sessions.

As for the desk, I couldn’t leave it lamp-less (I much prefer the gentle glow of lamplight over too-bright overheads in the evenings). I adjusted my Etsy search to seek out a desk lamp and found this one for $25. Isn’t it adorable? I love love love the color, and I didn’t realize until I got it that the “neck” was a pretty gold color. It feels a little bit glamorous.

It takes a teeny tiny lightbulb and doesn’t give off quite as much light as the old lamp, but I love it nonetheless. I can’t wait to get the brass lamp set up on the side table in the nursery (which I’m also really excited about). Things are starting to come together in there and it makes me really happy.
