I’ll be featuring some guest posts to fill the silence as Nick and I adjust to life as new parents. Please enjoy this post from Erin of Olive Our House!
hello! i’m erin and i actually started olive our house when my husband and i lived just a few streets away from charlotte. such a small world! of course, we didn’t discover each other’s blogs until after i had moved away. i’m now in dc, working on making our second home more us.
one of the easiest home improvements around is paint. home/design bloggers love telling people this. but really, it’s cheap, it requires little skill and if you don’t like it? try again!
if you want to get a little more interesting and have just a bit of patience, might i suggest adding in a painter’s tape stencil?
i made this greek key-inspired bar out of an old bookcase. once i stenciled and painted, i added wine glass racks and wine storage from ikea. i’m also obsessed with gold at the moment. seriously. the paint i used here was martha stewart’s “vintage gold”.
you can spot a failed DIY attempt of dipped wine glasses on that second shelf, but, you know, the glasses still work.
i even considered painting a frame on our (old, cheap) kitchen cabinets but instead, we gutted the entire thing to start over. (and by we, i mean the professionals we hired. paint i can handle. but plumbing, laying hardwoods and installing cabinets? i cannot.)
so now we’re dealing with this:
follow the progress here, if you’d like!
Thanks, Erin! I’m totally inspired to whip out some gold spraypaint now. And y’all, her kitchen has made some progress since that photo and is coming along beautifully! Color me jealous. You should definitely click on over to check it out.
