Making Space

Remember this corner of my office?

I’ve been working hard the past few weeks at decluttering and organizing. I sold the cube organizer on craigslist for $25, threw away some things I no longer needed, and moved several items to more logical homes on my pegboard shelves or in the expedit. So now the corner looks like this.

The plastic organizing bins, photo printer, and old laptop stacked in the corner are all going to be sold or donated (if you’re interested in the photo printer here’s the craigslist ad). I’ve got a plan to organize the shipping boxes in another room. So that just leaves the books and magazines! I’m tempted to toss all the magazines because I didn’t even read most of them when they were brand new, but I keep thinking that maybe someday I’ll be bored and want to peruse them. I know, I need to just give up on the hope that I will ever be bored again.

So now I’m in the market for a bookshelf to place there! True story: buying one on craigslist makes me nervous. I guess just because so many bookshelves are really cheaply made and I worry about it falling apart. Plus it would be hard to get an already-assembled bookcase home in my car. I’m totally kicking myself for not picking up one of these when I was in Houston last month. I also want to get a new tv for in here before Jack gets big enough to pull our current one down on top of himself, so my books might just be stacked against the wall for a while. Apparently television ranks higher than books on my priority list, haha.

  1. Do you have an unfinished furniture store in your area? I’ve seen nice little solid wood bookcases there.

A metal shelving unit, the kind usually seen in garages!, spray painted a fun color could be fun.

Tracie, you are full of great ideas! I’m going to have to price out those two options. Maybe I can ask for one for Christmas!

  2. I found a nice, heavy book case at Staples for around $70. You might try looking there if there is one near you.
