So the other day I filled the two smaller frames above my dressing table with some pretty things I made/found lying around my office, but I still had the two larger frames sitting empty.
I was looking around yesterday for something to make for the larger frames when my eyes settled onto my copy of the Young House Love book–my friend Sarah was so sweet to get me a signed copy when they were in Houston but I’m ashamed to say that, until yesterday, I had yet to crack it open! I flipped to the chapter on wall decor and within minutes had an idea to combine two of their projects–silver leaf an old painting and paint over tissue paper. I got together my “canvas” (a 5×7 envelope), mod podge, scrap tissue paper, dark silver metallic paint, and a brush.
I coated the envelope with mod podge and haphazardly stuck on some torn up pieces of tissue paper.
Then I just gave it a quick coat of silver paint. I was in a hurry because Jack was being a bit of a diva yesterday.
While that dried, I went to my computer and started looking through my files for something to print out. I found this teal bird, which I think I originally found by googling “public domain bird silhouette.” He was black originally but I’d somehow turned him blue. I wish I could remember now but it escapes me. My plan was to print him on a dictionary page to sell but I never got around to it.
I printed Mr. Birdie on some plain white paper, then this morning cut him approximately to size and paired him with my painted envelope.
Into the frames they went. I like it.
The sun is finally back out in Baton Rouge and the glare on these frames is pretty bad, but if you look close you can see there’s some pretty texture from the tissue paper.
Now there really is nothing left to do but move my stuff into the drawers. I’ll probably save that for this weekend because I seem to be having a hard time managing my personal affairs as of late. And with that I’m out! Fussy baby awaits.
