If you read a lot of home decor or DIY blogs, chances are you’ve heard of Young House Love. They’re kind of a big deal. I’ve been reading their blog since waaaaaay before starting my own and I’d be lying if I said they didn’t play a big role in inspiring my whole “living well on the cheap” philosophy. They are really great and if you haven’t checked out their blog you should do so. The thing is, I think that a lot of the folks who read my blog are not necessarily blog readers. I think a lot of y’all are friends and family and my friends’ and family’s friends and family who happened to stumble upon my blog one day and decided to stick around. So maybe you haven’t heard that the couple behind Young House Love wrote a book.
John and Sherry Petersik are not paying me to say this. They don’t even know who I am (I wish! I totally have a friend crush on them!). But this book is really good. And if you like my blog, chances are you will like this book.
It’s chock full of ideas to make your home your own. Some things are quick and easy and inexpensive, like the ones on these pages I happened to photograph, while others (ex: paint your kitchen cabinets, hang textured wallpaper on your ceiling, build a headboard) require a bit more elbow grease and/or moolah. There are tons of step-by-step tutorials and a heavy dose of you-can-do-it-! enthusiasm.
John and Sherry are nearing the end of a nationwide book tour, so if you’re lucky enough to live near NYC, Atlanta, or Charlotte maybe you can get yourself a signed copy at one of their remaining tour stops. My friend Sarah got me one when they came to Houston. I was totally jealous that she got to meet them! I tried to talk Nick into going with me to meet them in Atlanta but he couldn’t swing the time off from work and no way am I willing to make a trip like that alone with Jack. I’d be bananas by the end of day one, haha.
