I decided to get a little bit fancy with Jack’s monthly photo this time around. Usually I just lay him down on the floor and snap away until I get a few good smiles, but yesterday afternoon the weather was nice so we headed outside with some props. The vintage suitcase was $5 at a thrift store, the carrots were in my fridge, and the bunny I DIY’d the other day didn’t make much of an appearance.
I have no training whatsoever and am completely uninterested in the technical aspects of photography, but 2+ years of practice through blogging have given me confidence in photographing interiors and DIY projects. But for some reason taking portraits of Jack yesterday seemed so hard! I had a really hard time figuring out the angles, lighting, and background. By the time we were done I was feeling bummed and thinking maybe we could come back outside to try again today. Imagine my surprise when I uploaded them to my computer and discovered (after some cropping and enhancing) that I had some seriously adorable photos on my hands.
He lost interest in me, the carrots, and everything else when he realized that he was surrounded by leaves and grass.
Then he got really, really mad that I wouldn’t let him eat them. So the photo shoot was over.
If you look closely in the photos above you can see that he’s got a second tooth coming in right next to the first! Exciting times in the life of a baby! Another thrilling development: he’s sleeping through the night! And it’s glorious. In fact everything seems to have leveled out a bit after the chaos of some of his younger months. I’m savoring these peaceful days before he starts getting really active and into everything. He’s pushing up on his arms and scooting backwards a lot lately so who knows. I’m in no hurry.
I’m never gonna be offering to photograph other people’s kids or anything, but it’s fun to be able to DIY some frame-worthy photos of my own little one. The hardest part is choosing which one to print! Decisions, decisions… Happy holiday weekend, y’all! Hope you’ve got lots of fun plans, or at least a chance to relax a bit! See you Monday!
