After successfully completing a couple of small embroidery projects I decided to try my hand at something a little more complex. I knew that I wanted to stitch something up in a 4″ hoop to fill a small space on my dining room wall and I figured instead of just one letter I’d go for the whole shebang this time-our whole last name. So I found a free front that I liked and printed it out in 80pt, then traced it onto a small scrap of fabric with a pencil.
Then I just stitched along the outlines with some green thread while sitting in front of the TV that evening. But letters with loops in them still confound me a bit and the final product left something to be desired. Is it just me, or does that last “o” look like an “a”? Our last name is Tryforos, not Tryforas.
Regardless of those issues, I do think that my stitches are getting smaller and neater overall. Maybe I just need more practice? Or more forgiving projects? I never have been very good at anything involving precision, but words are just so easy on the front end because all I have to do is type and print. Perhaps I should put more effort into finding a beginner embroidery pattern that’s not text-based.
