Decorating with Vintage Pudding Molds

One of the first things I did after putting the last coat of paint on my kitchen walls was to hang up these vintage pudding molds that belonged to my late grandmother. I have actually used the one on the far right a few times to make an ice ring for punch, but other than that they’ve sat in a drawer until now.

I’ve had them forever but since I’ve always thought that I was going to paint the kitchen just as soon as I got around to it I never hung them up. There’s a weird electrical outlet cover above the doorway to the laundry room that needed to be covered up and I thought these would be perfect.

Now that they’re up there I’m not entirely convinced that this is the perfect place for them. One of them is slightly larger than the others but I couldn’t put it in the center because the hole in the middle of it would have exposed the outlet cover I was trying to hide. Plus the proportion of the grouping to the doorway is just a little off, so I may move them someplace else eventually, but I dig the overall vibe of something so traditionally southern in my kitchen. For a decidedly less traditional vibe I considered spray painting them fun colors, but I think I prefer the neutral tone and aged patina. Looking at these molds I am seriously tempted to whip up a fabulous scalloped mountain of jello for no special occasion whatsoever.  I ate jello for the first time since childhood when I was in the hospital after having Jack and had forgotten how delicious it was! I actually just googled it and apparently if you use fancy all-natural gelatin it’s super healthy and full of nutrients. I may have to make some for Jack to try!

  1. Oh, don’t move them! I actually really love them there, and love that they have a real, live family connection apart from just looking kind of cool.

  2. Uhhh, you better not paint those!

  3. I LOVE them!!! And don’t paint them, they’re perfect :)

  4. Love those! I wonder where I could buy some? Any ideas?

Thanks! Try etsy or eBay, or local estate sales but it could take a while to find them there!
