This is one of two books that I listened to on my recent road trip, and it was so good that I kept listening at every available opportunity once I got home. It was my constant companion in the car, at the gym, and while doing housework. And when it was done I felt like my internal dialogue had become permanently afflicted with a British accent.

The accent wore off after a few hours, but the impression the story made on me didn’t. I was deeply moved by this detailed study of people and relationships and the passage of time. I don’t even want to talk much about it for fear of spoiling it. It was made into a movie, and Nick and I watched it on an Amazon rental Sunday night, but it wasn’t nearly as good. I enjoyed it because I’d read the book but Nick fell asleep. I’m not sure that film as a format is really capable of capturing the depth of this story-the book is nearly 500 pages and covers a period of twenty years. Maybe a miniseries would’ve been better. And also it was labeled as a romantic comedy but I’d call that entirely inaccurate. There’s romance and there are laughs but a rom-com it is not. Anyway, if you are into character-driven novels, this one is for you.

Sounds like a good read!
I forgot that I had read that!
Felt the same way about the movie.
This is one of my favorite books!! I read it a few summers ago and even though I threw the book across the room at one point, I absolutely loved it. I read another book of his that was pretty funny but Dexter and Emma will always be my fav. Totally agree with the movie comment. I also got way too distracted by Anne Hathaway’s accent but it was nice to see them come to life.
